The kingdom of Jodhpur was ruled by the Rathores, who controlled much of Marwar in western Rajasthan including Bikaner, the other desert fiefdom. Jodhpur history revolves around this Rathore Clan. Rao Jodha, the chief of the Rathore clan, founded the city of Jodhpur in 1459. The Ranbanka Palace Hotel named after the the Rathore war cry –“RANBANKA RATHORE “ –( The invincible in battle ) was built for Maharajadhiraj Sir Ajit Singh ji ,younger brother of Maharaja Umaid Singh ji of Jodhpur, both brothers being direct decedents of Rao Jodha . The Maharajas of Jodhpur lived and they ruled from the Jodhpur Fort, the Meharangarh. Around a hundred years ago the Maharaja of Jodhpur built a palace called the Umaid Bhawan Palace. His younger brother Maharaja Ajit Singh built his Palace; close to Umaid Bhawan which is a now part of the Heritage Hotel Ranbanka Palace.

In the present day, Raj Kumar K.V.Singh (Grandson of Maharajadhiraj Sir, Ajit Singh) scion of the Royal Family has converted this Magnificent Sandstone Building into a Heritage Hotel in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Overlooking the seemingly invincible Mehrangarh Fort on one side and the gigantic Umaid Bhawan Palace on the other, Ranbanka Palace Hotels, one of the foremost Heritage Hotels in Jodhpur holds the lingering echoes of a bygone era, like no other place. His sons Harshwardhan Singh and Digvijay Singh have between them won the national cycle polo championship nine times and are also both polo players. Harshwardhan Singh has played for the Indian polo team at the world cup play off at Melbourne Australia in 1997. His son Yogeshwar Singh won the junior world cup in Argentina in 1998.

It is very finely carved with latticed windows that allow the soft, cool breeze to blow into the interiors of the place. The embankments of the lake in front of the place have a domed structure that offers a fabulous view of the lake encircled by hills and an artificial cascading waterfall. It is a part of Jodhpur but enjoys the calmness away from the city crowd.

The rooms and suites create an ambience that make you feel as if you are staying in a royal palace. You can even a walk through the bridge and also get to see black diamond fish and ducks on the lake.

This is ‘Jee Ri Haveli’ speaking. Though I don’t believe in boasting about myself, I want to share all my sweet and sour experiences with you, experienced not only by me but a few historic people too. So please listen! Don’t go! Lend your ears to me.

Marwar’s (Mandore’s) mighty Rathore ruler Rao Jodhaji considered the hills of Chidiyanath Ji safe and secured from all points. As a result, laid the foundation of a city named Jodhpur on 12th of May 1459 in the foothills of the Fort.

Following the tradition of Rathore rulers, Maharaja Shri Vijaysingh Ji, who was crowned in the year 1950, proved to the most capable and efficient ruler. He ruled for about 40 year and during his rule the city witnessed major aesthetic changes. Inspired and influenced by his wife, Maharani Gulabrai’s, spiritual and religious beliefs many beautiful temples were built. Examples of these being Gangashyam Ji, Bal Krishna, Kunj Bihari and a few other memorable artistic buildings like Mahila Bagh, the Clock Tower and Fathesagar saw their origin. In the year 1792 the water body Gulab Sagar was constructed in the memory of Maharani Sahiba.

The administrators working for these rulers also did not stay behind. Following in the same track they too introduced richness into the community by constructing artistic buildings like Pokran’s Haveli, Riyan’s Haveli and Nimaj’s Haveli.

The bedrooms are air-conditioned, spacious, well appointed and exquisitely decorated. Our few rooms have a balcony where one can sit to take in the fresh air and unspoiled view of Gulab Sagar Lake. The hotel is situated within walking distance of the Clock Tower.

The lake facing Jee Ri Haveli is within convenient walking distance of the main attractions of Old City as well as the shops, yet the location is tranquil and ideal for relaxation. There are fountains on the lake which start from 7pm to 10pm.

Resturant:

If you prefer the outdoors, then read, relax or dine in the Roof Top Restaurant. From the roof you can see all the famous places of Jodhpur like Mehran Gadh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Clock Tower and Umaid Palaqce etc. The restaurant provides a wide range of excellent food and an incredible, uninterrupted panorama over the lake, front view of the fort and the Old City of Jodhpur.
