The RANBANKA PALACE, one of the Heritage Hotels in Rajasthan traces its linage to the former Rulers of Jodhpur. The kingdom of Jodhpur was ruled by the Rathores, who controlled much of Marwar in western Rajasthan including Bikaner, the other desert fiefdom. Jodhpur history revolves around this Rathore Clan. Rao Jodha, the chief of the Rathore clan, founded the city of Jodhpur in 1459. The Ranbanka Palace Hotel named after the the Rathore war cry –“RANBANKA RATHORE “ –( The invincible in battle ) was built for Maharajadhiraj Sir Ajit Singh ji ,younger brother of Maharaja Umaid Singh ji of Jodhpur, both brothers being direct decedents of Rao Jodha . The Maharajas of Jodhpur lived and they ruled from the Jodhpur Fort, the Meharangarh. Around a hundred years ago the Maharaja of Jodhpur built a palace called the Umaid Bhawan Palace. His younger brother Maharaja Ajit Singh built his Palace; close to Umaid Bhawan which is a now part of the Heritage Hotel Ranbanka Palace.
